Is it ironic, Exxon Mobile steals oil from Africa, yet puts a commercial out saying they are donating to them?

When i saw that commercial, i was like ,they are stealing their money and only giving them CRUMBS for THEIR OIL

those people would be rich if Exxon wasn't over their stealing everythingIs it ironic, Exxon Mobile steals oil from Africa, yet puts a commercial out saying they are donating to them?
Exxon Mobil are corrupt idiots. So is Shell - they infiltrated the Nigerian government just so they could find it easier to obtain the oil resources there.

I believe it was one philosopher who famously said: ';A wise man puts money on his mind, and not in his heart';. Shame corporations could not follow such a simple and succinct adage.

Edit at Superior Intellect: I rarely edit my answers, but your answer was just too naive to be taken as truth. Economic deals in the real world are not as ';mutually beneficial'; as Economics classes profess them to be. Even the simple fact that Shell has a monumental influence on the Nigerian government, of which is evident from the following is enough to disprove of your inherently false argument:

';A closely watched lawsuit brought on behalf of executed Nigerian activist Ken Saro-Wiwa and others against oil company Royal Dutch Shell is now due to go to trial on May 26 [...].The oil company faces charges that include human rights violations in Nigeria in connection with the torture and death of Saro-Wiwa and eight other protesters after they were executed by the Nigerian government in 1995'; [Source: http://www.business-humanrights.org/Link鈥?/a> ]

What does the above demonstrate? That the Nigerian Government is executing individuals on the basis of the whims of ';big-wig'; corporations. You do have a point, in that certain African governments are ';sellouts';, and are willing to sell the blood of their citizens cheaply. I would be a little cautious in making such assertion however, considering that even America is slowly being bought up by China, and is ';enslaving'; America through the means of debt.

Another source going on to say:

';The current conflict in the Niger Delta arose in the early 1990s due to tensions between the foreign oil corporations and a number of the Niger Delta's minority ethnic groups who felt they were being exploited, particularly the Ogoni and the Ijaw.'; [Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conflict_in鈥?/a> ]

Check out ';Confessions of An Economic Hitman';, by John Perkins. It may be not be 100% literal truth, but it does touch upon the rather brutal reality that all deals are not based on handshakes in an office - more so on the basis of the philosophy of tooth and claw.Is it ironic, Exxon Mobile steals oil from Africa, yet puts a commercial out saying they are donating to them?
Guess what, an agreement is an agreement. Nobody is stealing anything.

Exxon probably paid the Nigerian government (I don't know which African country you are talking about because you never post a source, as usual). So, Exxon probably paid the countries Government to drill in their waters and the government gets a certain percentage out of it.

Also, usually contracts last for a limited amount of time, so that contract will eventually end, when it ends than they leave! (unless they renew it) So, if Exxon discovered oil in that area, than the federal governments of that region may benefit from that, when Exxon leaves, and do not have to search for oil themselves. (Searching for oil can cost billions and even trillions of dollars) So in the future, Africans can drill for natural resources themselves and make their own money and don't have to worry about financing a huge oil exploration project.

The problem is that many Africans expect people to just give them money for doing nothing! That is Africa's problem, they expect things for free! Of course a corporation does not give out money to people, they are a corporation!

Please take a basic economics course. Please!

EDIT: Megatron: So, because I do not make up excuses for Africans, I am a white supremacist! This isn't even about race, stop turning this into a race discussion!

(And if you are going to criticize my answer, at least tell me why it is wrong with the answer instead of concentrating on how to be insulting!)
this happens all the time. the modern day imperialism and robbery on a large scale. tbh african govt.'s also need to take responsibility and wise up. if they weren't so corrupt too, then maybe they would do something. but when they are also stealing money, what can they say?
They like to play both sides; and people actually believe them. It works great because:

1)It makes it look like Africans can't do sh1t

2) It makes foreign interests look good

3)It allows them to continue to plunder, sometimes even sabotage stable governments to get resources

Superior *cough* INFERIOR*cough* Intellect: Dude, we all know you are a White supremacist masquerading as a Black. I've seen your posts; atleast try to make it a little less obvious

Inferior Deficit A.K.A ';Superior Moron';: Funny how you bypassed Marvins answer , to offer a rebuttle to my assertion that you aren't Black. If your answer was even worth reading, you would have adressed his economic points first, and then my race point. As it stands you only did the race one, so not only do i not have to bother going into details, but you've just proven that i've shown who and what you really are
you mean they dont pay the africans for the oil ? come on now. they pay the market rate for the oil. the only problem is that african leaders keep all that money in their swiss accounts
Tara J aka snatch-face,

I didn't know you knew how to get oil, why you must be so smart! What a clever little white girl. Thank goodness we have people like you in the world!
but you darkies are to dumb to get the oil out of the ground for yourself.that's why EXXON is there.
yes its sad how people try to make themselvess look Good when in reality they its all for show.
it's the greedy, murdering leaders who won't help their own country
