Let me be frank here. Because the idiot that was driving the ship got soppy drunk. Fell asleep and released the latch that held all of the oil; causing it to spill all in the ocean while hurting animals and vegetation. I know the last part is a run-on sentence. But, I'm sorry. He was an idiot.
because of all the oil spilling into the ocean

If you can't answer this question on your own, you might as well drop out of school now and work at Burger King.

GET ME A WHOPPER!
It was one of the worlds largest oil spills (10.8 million gallons) and was in a remote area so it was very difficult to clean up. It was spilt in an evironment rich with wildlife so it killed fish, seabirds, sea otters, seals, sealions, whales, and sharks. Since then the population of the creatures in this area has remained low. Overall it killed the oceanic environment, and all the species in it.
It killed a ton of wildlife because everything got covered in oil
